The Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) damages the body’s immune system over time decreasing the body’s ability to fight off infections. If HIV positive individuals develop certain serious illnesses they are then said to have AIDS (Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome). HIV/AIDS is treatable and the current medications have vastly improved over the recent years, consequently the outlook for someone with HIV is now much better.
